Statistics

The Lands Office of the Velocity Interoperability Network publishes statistics on the land of the Network: its extent, the parcels and leases recorded in the Land Register, the boundary markers on the district boundaries and the work of the Office. This first release covers the transition period from 10 August to 5 September 2026, during which member organisations transferred their land records to the Office, and records the position at establishment on 6 September 2026.

The figures are drawn from the records transferred by member organisations, from the Office's survey returns and from the Land Register. Areas are rounded to the nearest ten hectares. Figures for the transition period are provisional and will be revised in later releases where late records are received.

Of the 48,600 hectares in the Register, 27,340 hectares are held in hand by the Network, 12,480 hectares are held under lease and 8,780 hectares are reserved for roads, watercourses and common purposes. Of the 1,184 leases, 312 are operational, 546 residential, 218 agricultural, 74 short and 34 community leases. Of the 2,318 boundary markers, 1,905 were verified during the transition and 413 remain to be verified under the survey programme.

Activity during the transition. The records of member organisations were transferred in two stages, the principal sites first. The activity recorded is shown below.

The rise in boundary enquiries between the two halves of the period followed the circulation of the draft district boundaries to member organisations on 24 August. Most enquiries concerned the position of a district boundary relative to a leased parcel; 691 were answered from the records and 51 were referred for verification on the ground.

The Office will publish statistics quarterly. The next release, covering the quarter ending 30 September 2026, will be published in October 2026 and announced in the Newsroom. It will include the first results of the boundary survey programme and the number of lease applications received.
