Land Register
The Land Register is the record kept by the Lands Office of the Velocity Interoperability Network of every parcel of Network land. It was opened on 6 September 2026 with the 6,420 parcel records transferred from member organisations during the transition period, brought into a single numbering system based on the twelve districts. The Register is conclusive as to the boundaries, area and tenure of a parcel and as to any lease in force over it.
The Register is open to inspection. Anyone may request an extract for any parcel, whether or not they have an interest in the land. Extracts are issued without charge during the Office's first year of operation; a schedule of fees will be published in the Newsroom before 1 September 2027.
What an entry records. Each parcel has one entry in the Register, in six parts.
- Parcel number
- The two-letter code of the district followed by a four-digit number, for example WB-0417. Parcel numbers are permanent; a parcel that is divided receives new numbers and the old number is closed, not reused.
- Area and description
- The area of the parcel in hectares to two decimal places, its situation by reference to roads, watercourses or adjoining parcels, and any name by which it is known.
- Tenure
- Whether the parcel is held in hand by the Network, held under a lease, or reserved for roads, watercourses and common purposes.
- Lease particulars
- Where a lease is in force: the leaseholder, the class of lease, the date of grant, the term, the date of expiry and any registered consent to assignment or subletting.
- Registered survey
- The number and date of the survey on which the boundaries of the parcel rest, and the boundary markers to which the survey is tied.
- Notes
- Rights of way and drainage recorded over the parcel, conditions particular to the parcel, and any pending application affecting it.
Holdings at establishment. The table below records the land in the Register by tenure on 6 September 2026. The 1,596 leased parcels are held under 1,184 leases, some leases covering more than one parcel.
| Tenure | Parcels | Area (ha) | Share of area |
|---|---|---|---|
| Held in hand by the Network | 3,912 | 27,340 | 56% |
| Held under lease | 1,596 | 12,480 | 26% |
| Reserved for roads, watercourses and common purposes | 912 | 8,780 | 18% |
| Total | 6,420 | 48,600 | 100% |
Land held in hand is available for lease on application. Reserved land is not available for lease; it comprises the roads, tracks, watercourses, drainage reserves and common grounds of the Network, and is held for the use of all. The position by district is set out on the Statistics page.
Obtaining an extract. An extract reproduces the entry for one parcel and the registered plan of its boundaries. The steps below apply to every request.
Step 1: Identify the parcel
Quote the parcel number if you know it. If you do not, describe the land by district and by reference to the nearest road, watercourse or building, or by the name of the leaseholder, and the Office will identify the parcel for you.
Step 2: Write to the Office
Send the parcel number or description, the kind of extract required, and your name and email address to the Office. Anyone may request an extract; you need not have an interest in the land.
Step 3: Confirmation
The Office confirms receipt within two working days and tells you the date by which the extract will be issued. If the parcel cannot be identified from your description, the Office will ask for more information.
Step 4: Issue of the extract
The extract is issued by email, normally within ten working days. A certified extract, bearing the seal of the Office and suitable for production in proceedings, is issued within fifteen working days.
Correcting the Register. Anyone who believes an entry to be wrong may write to the Office setting out the error and the evidence for it. The Office examines the entry against the registered survey and the records transferred at establishment, and corrects the entry where an error is shown. Where the correction alters a boundary, a fresh survey is made and every occupier affected is notified before the entry is changed. The Office answers every request for correction within six weeks.
Requests for extracts and enquiries about entries may be sent to contact@lands.gov.vin. For the leases the Register records, see Leases; for the surveys on which entries rest, see Surveys; for answers to common questions, see the frequently asked questions.
