Press Release

Lands Office Opens Applications for Leases of Network Land from 21 September

Office of the Spokesperson

The Lands Office of the Velocity Interoperability Network today published the classes of lease under which Network land may be held and the standard conditions that apply to each. Five classes are available: operational leases for the facilities of member organisations, residential leases for staff housing, agricultural leases, short leases for works compounds and temporary storage, and community leases for land used in common.

Applications open on Monday 21 September 2026 and are made by writing to the Office with the reference of the parcel sought, the class of lease, the proposed use and the term requested. The Office acknowledges every application within five working days, inspects the parcel, and issues an offer of terms or a reasoned refusal within six weeks. An offer may be accepted within 28 days, after which the lease is executed and recorded in the Land Register.

The 1,184 leases transferred to the Office from member organisations continue in force on their existing terms until they expire or are renewed. Leaseholders need take no action; each will receive written confirmation of the registered particulars of their lease by 30 October 2026. The classes, conditions and application steps are set out on the Leases page of this site.
